Sumida Jazz T-shirt
About Sumida Jazz T-shirt
“Sumida Street Jazz Festival” has been held since August 2010 for no admission for all sessions under the concept of “music festival for anyone to enjoy playing and listening to live music for 2 days a year in the music town of Sumida”.
Thanks to all of you, we honorable welcomed more than 100,000 visitors last year.
We believe we have delivered the joy and fun of listening to live music to many audiences.
We do not have big sponsors. The huge cost for the festival is covered by sponsorship by companies, donations from the general public, and food/beverage & T-shirt sales.
It is crucial for us to balance our budgets so we can continually put on this festival for many years into the future.
Please support this festival through your purchase of T-shirts.
Volunteer staff will welcome you wearing a T-shirt of the same design on the days of the festival. Please visit the festival wearing the same design of the T-shirt. Those who wear the T-shirt are part of our crowd. So why don’t you join us with wearing the T-shirt.
Please bring additional excitement to the Sumida Street Jazz Festival with!
The T-shirt for this year is designed by Masayuki Kojo-san, an ink-brush warrior painter.
For the commemoration of the 8th anniversary of the Sumida Jazz Festival, we have very different T-shirt design from the previous years, an ink-brush work by Masayuki Kojo-san.
Japan’s popularity has been rising in recent years, so we requested the painter to design a T-shirt under the theme of “Japonesque” based on an idea how it would be like if a samurai plays the saxophone.
Some Samurai may have liked music and could have played the bamboo flute!!
How would a Samurai have felt if he heard a saxophone?
If a music loving Samurai obtained a saxophone, how would he have played the sax?
Well, even when he played the sax, we would not get his hands off his sword. With that imagination, the T-shirt was designed with a samurai holding the saxophone in one hand and a sword in other hand.
Sumida Ward is famous for its fireworks. It is said that the fireworks originally developed as an extension of firearm technique practice and improvement of the beacon fire skill for Samurai in the Edo era, and the connection between Sumida Ward and Samurais is quite deep.
In addition, in Sumida Ward, the “Sword Museum" is scheduled to open following the Sumida Hokusai Museum of Art.
With the reasons above, we believe the design of the T-shirt designed with the atmosphere of the Edo-era is perfect fit for an event in Sumida ward.
Please support the Sumida Jazz Festival with wearing the very creative cool designed Sumida Jazz T-shirt.

About Kume Fiber which is a manufacture for the original T-shirt.
It is Kume Textile Industry which manufactures our important T-shirts for the Sumida Jazz Festival!
Our honorable T-shirt manufacture in Sumida-ku, Kume Textile Industry founded in 1935 and is the first manufacture which made T-shirts in Japan.
Some downtown neighbors say “If not Kume Textile, I wouldn’t buy a T-shirt”.
Their secret is their obsession with domestic materials.
Usually any T-shirts for a festival get fully stretched around neck after several washes but this does not happen at all for T-shirts by Kume Textile. You would know first-hand if you have one from the 1st Festival. Even after several years, it keeps the original shape.
On the top of that, the cotton washed-out is really comfortable which can be enjoyed only by those who have ever worn one.
Please have your first-hand experience for long sustainable quality and comfortableness of the T-shirt
